After beating Turkey 3-1 in the semi-finals, Fernando Santos’ side will face North Macedonia in the 2022 World Cup play-off final on March 29.
The hosts dominated the first 45 minutes, with Otavio and Diogo Jota giving them a merited 2-0 lead at the half, with the 2016 European winners appearing to be on their way to the final.
However, their inability to score a third goal after the break allowed Turkey to reclaim the lead, as Cengiz Under slipped in Burak Yilmaz to put the visitors back in the game.
Despite the change in momentum, Turkey’s chances were terminated by Yilmaz’s 86th-minute missed penalty kick, as substitute Rafael Leao wrapped it up in extended time.
